Dear RMT Member

REORGANSATION AND REDUNDANCIES – BABCOCK RAIL

I have just received notification from Babcock Rail this afternoon that it intends to commence with a restructuring and reorganisation exercise which will result in 42 jobs being cut.

Babcock says it has been forced into this move due to a reduction in the workbank and volume of work that Network Rail requires in Year 1 of the CP7 funding period. It adds that the 30-day consultation period will take affect from today’s date.

The 42 roles proposed to be made redundant are within the RSAS organisation. Of these, 15 are in roles in Restructured Grades, 7 are in PM Technical Grades, 3 are in Clerical grades and there are a further 17 roles in Executive Manager Grades. Of these 42 roles proposed for reduction, 12 are currently vacant. All roles are located at Cadder Depot.

While your union has just received this information, we do know this will be greeted with shock and trepidation by those whose jobs could be affected. I can also advise that that this matter is receiving the urgent attention of your union and we shall do everything possible to defend our members’ jobs and interests in this matter.

I will of course keep you all advised of further developments, particularly following the initial meeting between your union and the company next Tuesday (26th March 2024).

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
