REST DAY WORKING DYNAMIC PAYMENTS – ABELLIO SCOTRAIL

Our Ref: BR2/9/4

Dear Colleague

REST DAY WORKING DYNAMIC PAYMENTS – ABELLIO SCOTRAIL

It has been brought to my attention by your Union Representatives that the Scotrail Drivers Rest Day Working Agreement, which was due to expire on the 31st January 2021, has been extended to the 31st October 2021. Scotrail claims to treat all their members equally yet fails to see any issue with honoring an enhanced rate for rest day working to one group of grades whilst excluding all other grades from receiving the same payment. This decision is unfair, immoral and divides the workforce.

The RMT believes that all grades should receive the same enhanced payments pro rata for working your rest days and finds the actions of Scotrail management totally unacceptable. You and your colleagues are key workers and have shown your loyalty to the company and dedication to other key workers and the travelling public, by keeping the rail industry running during a national pandemic. This commitment deserves to be rewarded fairly and in line with all other grades.

Therefore, I can now advise you that the union’s National Executive Committee has recently considered the matter and I have been instructed to write to Abellio Scotrail advising we are in dispute with the company over their refusal to negotiate a rest day dynamic payment for all grades. The ballot for industrial action will be for strike action and for action short of a strike in which members will be instructed not to work any rest days or overtime or undertake higher grade duties.

The ballot for our Scotrail Engineering grade members opens on Tuesday 4th May 2021 and will close on Tuesday 25th May 2021. If you have not received a ballot paper by Monday 10th May 2021 then please contact the RMT Freephone Helpline urgently on 0800 376 3706 or the RMT Switch board on 020 7387 4771 and ask for the industrial relations department, where a replacement ballot paper will be sent to your home address by first class post. Additionally, if you are aware of a colleague who has not received their ballot paper, ask them to call one of the above numbers to update their details and to receive a replacement ballot paper.

I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter and I will, of course, update you on any further developments.

Best wishes.
