Our Ref: BR2/9/4

4th September 2018

Dear Colleague,

I am writing in relation to the above matter and further to reports received from our Lead Officer. It has come to our attention that Abellio Scotrail has agreed to pay only drivers an enhanced rate of pay for working rest days. It is appalling that an employer, such as Scotrail, would exclude a number of frontline staff from these payments. A member of staff doing non-driver duties working their rest days should be treated no differently to driving grades. Your union has held a number of discussions on this issue with management and it is totally unacceptable that they have refused to agree to pay our members dynamic payments for working rest days.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and has instructed me to ballot you and your colleagues for industrial action. I have informed the company that we are now in dispute with them over this issue and that we will not allow our members to be treated unfairly.

The ballot papers will be despatched to your home address on Monday 10th September 2018 by the ERS and will need to be returned by no later than first post on Tuesday 25th September 2018. If you or a colleague have not received a ballot paper by Tuesday 18th September 2018 then please phone the RMT Helpline on 0800 376 3706 or the Switchboard on 020 7387 4771 and ask for the Industrial Relations Department and a replacement will be sent out.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
