Dear Colleague,

The union has been in discussions with Great Western Railway over a potential restructuring agreement for the Conductor and Train Manager grades. These talks have been on-going for a substantial amount of time, with little progress being made. As you are aware, the union had received a proposal from the company, which was being considered by the National Executive Committee. The NEC took the decision to discuss the document with your representatives to receive a more informed view on the proposal.

A meeting was held with your On-Board Divisional Council, Local Representatives, Lead Officer, National Officers and NEC members to discuss the company’s document. All opinions and views were considered during these discussions and it was agreed by all in attendance that these current proposals do not meet the full aspirations of members, reps and the union. The full restructuring document can be found here:- should you require a hard copy then please contact the RMT Freephone Helpline number on 0800 376 3706, the RMT switchboard on 0207 387 4771 and ask for the industrial relations department or e-mail and we will post a copy to your address.

Therefore, the NEC has instructed me to hold a referendum of you and your colleagues with a clear and strong recommendation to reject the offer and vote ‘No’. Voting papers will be dispatched today and you will need to ensure your voting paper is received by no later than First Post, on 5th November 2019.

I urge all members to vote during this referendum so you can have your say on the proposals. I will of course keep you updated on any further developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
