REVISED SERVICE 2, TORRISHOLME ROAD LOW BRIDGE – STAGECOACH NORTH WEST
You will no doubt be aware that discussions have been held between your representatives and management over concerns with safety risks associated with the labelling of Service 2.
Your union put forward a fairly simple and straightforward demand that the service be renumbered so that no buses would serve Torrisholme Road bridge due to a safety risk, a risk which has been highlighted on more than one occasion over recent weeks. However management have continually failed to address this issue, citing commercial reasons for this refusal.
It is totally unacceptable to put commercial interests before the safety of drivers and passengers and it is well understandable that this issue has resulted in anger among you and your colleagues who are demanding action to change management’s stance.
Your union’s National Executive Committee has endorsed the request from your representatives and full-time official that a ballot be held for strike action over this matter. I will therefore be formally notifying the company early in the new year of this ballot, with a view to despatching voting papers on 11th January 2019.
If management are not going to address your basic and fair health and safety concerns over this matter, then they need to be sent a clear message that your and your colleagues are prepared to take action until they do.
I will write to you again in the New Year.
