RFA Update

RFA Update

Dear Colleague

RMT members employed by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) will be taking strike action on Tuesday 25th June, which is designated by the United Nations as the Day of the Seafarer, to recognise and to celebrate the unique contribution made by seafarers all over the world.

The UK needs to recognise the contribution of seafarers, particularly at the RFA where all ratings grades are paid below the market average in the shipping sector and the employer has imposed a pay increase of 4.5% for 2023-24 which has been rejected by RMT members.

We are calling upon all RMT members employed by Royal Fleet Auxiliary and the wider trade union movement to show support to those seafarers taking industrial action by supporting the various picket lines:

1). Cammel Laird Ship Repair,

Birkenhead, Campbelltown RD, CH41 9BP, near the old drinking fountain Crossing, New Chester RD from 06.30 - 14.30.

(Contact Ian Parkin - RMT Convenor – 07888 521746; Ian Boyle - Branch Secretary South Wales & South West Shipping Branch - 07983 086496)

2). Plymouth – Yonderberry Main Gate, Yonderberry A374, Torpoint, Cornwall PL11 2PG.  07.30 - 15.30

(Contact Mark Carden, Assistant National Secretary RMT – 07733 335355)

(Contact Ollie Longden RMT NEC Region M1 – 07411 319796)

Please share with colleagues and on social media in order to maximise support for our RFA seafarers.

Yours sincerely

Michal Lynch
