RMT ANNOUNCES NEW STRIKE DATES AND A NEW BALLOT AT MACGREGORS

Our Ref: SH/0001/MCG

Dear Colleagues

RMT ANNOUNCES NEW STRIKE DATES AND A NEW BALLOT AT MACGREGORS

RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2018 – MACGREGORS

Further to my letter dated 19th September 2018, in which I informed you that I had advised MacGregors of your rejection of the latest pay offer. I can now report that fresh talks have taken place; however, despite the best efforts of the union’s negotiating team, no significant progress has been made in these talks and no improved pay offer has been tabled by the company.

The National Executive Committee has consulted with your Representatives and after carefully considering this matter the National Executive Committee believes that there is no other choice but to call further industrial action. Therefore, the National Executive Committee has instructed you and your colleagues to take industrial action by not booking on for any shifts that commence between:-

• 00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Friday 9th November 2018
• 00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Monday 12th November 2018

Additionally, with effect from 00:01 hours on Saturday 10th November 2018 until 23:59 hours on Sunday 11th November 2018 you instructed not to work any overtime.

I urge you and your colleagues to continue with your magnificent support to fight for pay justice at MacGregors.

This dispute has been ongoing for nearly 6 months and your strength, unity and determination has been incredible throughout. However, there have been very cynical additions made in the 2016 Trade Union Act which put even greater restrictions on workers taking industrial action. These restrictions are the most draconian in Western Europe.

One of the consequences of the new laws is that all ballots are only valid for a 6 month period from the date they close. It does not matter whether the dispute is ongoing or industrial action is being taken. It takes no notice of the fact that you are continuing this principled fight. So we have no choice but to conduct another ballot and get a fresh mandate from members and your union is asking you to return a magnificent ‘YES’ vote as you did in the previous ballot.

Therefore, on Wednesday 31st October 2018 the independent scrutineer will send a ballot paper to your home address. It is vital that you use your vote in the forthcoming ballot and I urge you all to vote ‘YES’ for industrial action. The ballot will close on Tuesday 13th November 2018.

I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will inform you of any further developments on this issue when they arise.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
