RMT UPDATE – BRIGGS MARINE - DOVER
Dear Colleague,
I am writing to inform you that due to the increase in membership at Dover, I have written to your employer seeking voluntary recognition. Your employer now has 10 days to respond and we will keep you and your colleagues advised of any communication received on this matter.
I would also like to encourage members to continue to recruit any employees who are not currently members of RMT to join the union, in an effort have an organised workplace with 100% membership density and collective strength to address your workplace issues.
I would like to further encourage members to discuss and identify potential industrial and health and safety representatives from within our membership who will be given the support of local, regional and national officials to carry out your role effectively.
RMT will also provide the necessary training to ensure that elected representatives have the necessary skills and understanding to carry out your role effectively. Should formal recognition be achieved, your union will be in contact to initiate the process of formally electing and appointing your representatives.
Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every member for joining RMT, and to encourage members to become actively involved the union’s machinery by attending Dover Shipping Branch meetings and effectively organising your workplace to address the concerns of you and your colleagues.
For those not already in contact with Dover Shipping Branch Secretary Carl Holman for details of your next Branch meeting, he can be reached on dovershipping@rmt.org.uk
Yours sincerely,
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
