Dear RMT member,
RMT Update - Recognition at Loram UK LTD
With reference to the above, due to Loram’s rejection of our approach for a voluntary recognition agreement, RMT refused to take ‘No’ for an answer and submitted an application to the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) on 30 April 2024 that it should be recognised for collective bargaining by Loram UK LTD.
Following developments, I am pleased to announce that on 3rd June 2024 the Union received confirmation from the CAC that our application has been accepted.
I have received a report from RMT Midlands Regional Organiser John Watson that, on Thursday 6th June, Loram is holding a state of the nation address to the staff and are even flying in someone from the US to speak to staff. It has become apparent that not all staff will be able to attend this meeting and there is concern that the company will do everything in its power to convince members to withdraw from the RMT, or not want recognition for the RMT.
Your Union is aware that there are plenty of issues within Loram that need addressing, and it is clear the company do not want the RMT involved. While you may hear a variety of opinions and views on Thursday regarding RMT and recognition, please ignore the propaganda that may come from the company.
Following the CAC’s decision to accept our application, the CAC’s responsibility is now to help both parties reach an agreement as to the appropriate bargaining unit and we will be acting in accordance with the statutory procedure.
I would ask members to speak to, and recruit, their colleagues so that when we achieve recognition the Company will be under no illusions that the RMT are here to stay and represent our members at Loram.
Finally, I would like to thank you for your continued support and commitment with this campaign.
Yours sincerely,
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
