ROLE & RESPONSIBILITY OF THE GUARD, BARRHEAD & EAST KILBRIDE ROUTE – SCOTRAIL TRAINS LTD

The RMT Union received correspondence from Scotrail over discussions on the important issues at the heart of this dispute. However, the company has failed to address any of the concerns the Union has and there is nothing within the correspondence that attempts to resolve the issues.

The Union’s National Executive Committee has considered this matter and believes that there is nothing from the company that will allow us to stop any ballot for industrial action. The RMT will not accept any erosion of the safety critical role of the guard and dispatch duties. Therefore, the ballot remains firmly in place.

The ballot for industrial action Opens tomorrow (Thursday 11th April 2024) and will Close on Thursday 2nd May 2024.

Please make sure you return your ballot paper as soon as you receive it, so that the Union are not prevented from acting on the wishes of members.

Therefore, I urge all members to VOTE ‘YES’ for strike action and action short of a strike to

demand the company provide assurances over the role and responsibility of the guard.

It is imperative that we get a massive return in the ballot for industrial action, so we are not prevented from acting on our members' wishes by the anti-trade union ballot thresholds. Failure to meet these thresholds means industrial action cannot happen, so a high turnout is crucial.

Return your paper and support your colleagues, let us send Scotrail a clear message that we will not allow them to force through these unacceptable proposals.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
