RMT SUSPENDS ALL STRIKE ACTION

MEMBERS INSTRUCTED TO WORK AS NORMAL

Dear Colleague

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITY OF THE GUARD, BARRHEAD & EAST KILBRIDE ROUTE – SCOTRAIL TRAINS LTD

Further to my previous correspondence with regards to the above dispute, I write to inform you that your Union’s Negotiating Team has attended talks with Scotrail management at ACAS and I am pleased to inform you that the following position has been reached:

1. Conductors at Glasgow Central, Ayr, Stranraer and Dumfries will continue to operate train doors and carry out dispatch duties on Barrhead and East Kilbride services.

2. As and when new trains are procured and deployed, which we believe will be around 2030, ScotRail will engage in meaningful consultation with the RMT on the mode of operation on those routes.

3. The time window between now and 2030 offers just over five years for meaningful consultation to take place.

The union’s National Executive Committee has recently considered the matter and has taken the decision to suspend all forthcoming Strike Action. Therefore, you and your colleagues are instructed to work normally on the days of industrial action.

The RMT remains steadfast in its total opposition of any dilution to the roles and responsibilities of the Guard especially for dispatch, control of doors and the platform train interface.

On behalf of myself and the Executive Committee, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our Scotrail Conductor grade members at Ayr, Dumfries, Glasgow Central and Stranraer for standing strong throughout this dispute and for winning this fantastic victory.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
