STRIKE ACTION SUSPENDED AFTER BREAKTHROUGH AT ACAS TALKS

Dear Colleague

Role of the Guard & Extension of DOO – Arriva Rail North

After the most amazing support from you and your colleagues in the fight to retain a Conductor the company has confirmed their willingness to accept the following key principles:-

• That for the duration of the current franchise every train will run with a Conductor on board in addition to the Driver; and

• Where new or modified rolling stock is being introduced that every train will continue to run with a Conductor.

In addition it is intended that, in order to maximise the benefit for customers and the beneficial use of new technology, the company, the union and relevant stakeholders will seek to agree any appropriate changes to operational mode, taking account of all safety and risk factors.

47 days of strike action. You have to look at that time and again to take in the full extent of the most amazing show of solidarity in the Trade Union Movement for many a year. You should rightly be extremely proud of the stand you have taken on this principled position to retain a second safety critical member of staff on all trains.

As a result of this breakthrough the National Executive Committee has suspended the strike action called for the 9th and 16th February and you are instructed to work normally on these days. Also in light of these developments I can advise you that the lobby of the Transport for the North Board and the public meeting in Chester on 7th February 2019 have been cancelled.

YOU HAVE SIMPLY BEEN AMAZING

I will write to you again shortly.

Best wishes,

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
General Secretary
