Our Ref: BR2/0146

6th December 2016

Dear Colleague,

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTHERN (GTR)

Firstly, I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues for your continued support. The action today has been rock solid and is sending a strong message to southern that we stand united against their disgraceful tactics and lack of concern for passenger safety and wellbeing.

I write further to my letter dated 28th November 2016 with regards to the above matter and in which I advised you that due to obstacles such as anti-trade union laws it is vital that all details are up-to-date. I would kindly ask that you check your details are correct and ensure you inform the union whether you have migrated to the OBS Grade by filling in the pro-forma or emailing rmtmail@rmt.org.uk.

The National Executive Committee is regularly consulting with your representatives regarding any strike action and the issues surrounding this dispute. It had come to the attention of the NEC that the proposed strike action dates of Thursday 22nd November 2016 to Saturday 24th December 2016 were causing some concern and a change of date should be considered.

ACTION CANCELLED

Therefore, the National Executive Committee has recently considered this matter and has rescinded their previous instruction to not book on between:-

•    0001 hours on Thursday 22nd December 2016 and 2359 hours on Saturday 24th  December 2016

You are expected to work as normal on these dates.

NEW ACTION

Following further consultation from your representatives the National Executive Committee has recently considered this matter and has instructed you and your colleagues to take strike action by not booking on for any shifts between:-

•    0001 hours on Monday 19th December 2016 and 2359 hours on Tuesday 20th  December 2016

ACTION STILL ON

Please be advised that the previous instruction is still running and you and your colleagues are still instructed to take strike action by not booking on for any shifts between

•    0001 hours on Saturday 31st December 2016 and 2359 hours on Monday 2nd  January 2017

I urge you to continue your outstanding support and solidarity and to stand shoulder to shoulder with your colleagues during this industrial action. Southern must be left in no doubt they have to meet our demands to maintain the safety role of the guard. Once again I would like to thank you and your colleagues for your tremendous support for each other during this difficult time.

SUPPORT THE ACTION.
UNITY IS STRENGTH.
NO TO DOO!

Yours sincerely
