ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

Dear Colleague

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

Firstly, I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues for your continued support and steadfast determination in opposing South Western Railway. The company plans to introduce DOO across their network, which will clearly threaten safety, security and accessibility on SWR trains. The company need to start taking safety seriously and start putting staff and passengers before their profits.

The company has still not contacted the union to try and resolve this dispute. It is clear that the company are trying to bury their heads in the sand, in hope that the dispute will resolve itself. This is an appalling way to hold negotiations and just shows the clear contempt management has for you and your colleagues.

Additionally, your Company Council Representatives attended an HAZOP meeting, where the company stated that the driver would be expected to have full operational control of the door. Your union representatives at the meeting made it clear that this position was totally unacceptable and had not been agreed by any of the unions involved.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and believes the only way to force the company to get around the table is to take further industrial action. Therefore, you and your colleagues are instructed to not to book on for any shifts that commence between:-

• 0001 Hours on Tuesday 23rd October 2018 and 2359 Hours on Saturday 27th October 2018
• 0001 Hours and 2359 Hours on Saturday 3rd November 2018
• 0001 Hours and 2359 Hours on Saturday 10th November 2018
• 0001 Hours and 2359 Hours on Saturday 17th November 2018
• 0001 Hours and 2359 Hours on Saturday 24th November 2018

Furthermore, The National Executive Committee has referred the matter of a Hardship Fund to our finance sub-committee. Information will be circulated to you all as soon as it is available.

I urge you all to continue with your magnificent support and stand shoulder to shoulder during this dispute. I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will keep you updated on these matters.

NO TO DOO!
SUPPORT YOUR UNION
SUPPORT THE ACTION

Yours sincerely
