Dear Colleague

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO - ARRIVA RAIL NORTH

RMT CALLS FURTHER STRIKE ACTION

On behalf of myself and your union’s National Executive Committee, I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues for the continued support and steadfast resolve you have shown throughout the long running dispute on DOO. The action taken to date has been rock solid.

Following on from the above, your union’s National Executive Committee has recently met with the Lead Officer and your Company Council Representatives to discuss the best strategy going forward to resolve the DOO dispute. Having taken into consideration the views of your Lead Officer and elected Representatives, the union’s National Executive Committee has again considered the matter and believes we have no alternative but to take further strike action in order to defend the safety critical role of the Guard.

Therefore, all ARN Conductor, Conductor Instructor and Train Driver members are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between:-

•00.01 Hours and 23.59 Hours on Saturday 17th November 2018

•00.01 Hours and 23.59 Hours on Saturday 24th November 2018

•00.01 Hours and 23.59 Hours on Saturday 1st December 2018

•00.01 Hours and 23.59 Hours on Saturday 8th December 2018

•00.01 Hours and 23.59 Hours on Saturday 15th December 2018

00.01 Hours and 23.59 Hours on Saturday 22nd December 2018

•00.01 Hours and 23.59 Hours on Saturday 29th December 2018

NB: I would like to remind members that the strike action tomorrow and on the 10th November 2018 remains in place.

As you are fully aware, your union’s Negotiating Team has only ever negotiated within union policy and our position over the introduction of DCO/DOO has never altered. However, despite management keep stating they wish to talk the company’s position to operate trains without the need for a second employee to be on board is exactly as it was from day one of this dispute. The RMT finds this attitude from ARN totally deplorable.

Management need to stop their disingenuous propaganda and return to the negotiating table for serious talks to resolve this dispute. I have again advised Arriva Rail North that the RMT remains available for meaningful talks and should this be the case, we would consider suspending the strike action.

The unity and outstanding solidarity you have shown the union and one another to date has been amazing. You and your colleagues are a true inspiration to the whole Trade Union movement and I urge you all to continue with this fantastic show of solidarity. We must do everything we can to defend the safety critical role of the Guard and passenger safety.

NO TO DOO

SUPPORT THE ACTION

SUPPORT YOUR COLLEAGUES

Best wishes.
