LATEST POSITION ON ACAS TALKS

Dear Colleague,

Role of the Guard & Extension of DOO – Arriva Rail North

In my correspondence of 6th February 2019 I promised to keep you advised of developments following the positive movement made by Arriva Rail North via ACAS.

I am pleased to say we have now agreed a date for high level discussions, next Thursday the 21st February. The meeting will be under the auspices of ACAS with Brendan Barber, ACAS Chair overseeing discussions. I will be leading the RMT delegation together with Micky Thompson the Lead Officer and Steve Nott from the National Executive Committee. Arriva Rail North will be sending their Senior Management Team.

In my previous correspondence I advised you of the key principles that ARN were willing to accept and we now need to see where this leads and to ensure we cross the t’s and dot the i’s to ensure that any agreement cannot be undermined in the future. The devil is always in the detail.

Obviously we are entering these talks in a positive way and are hopeful that we can bring this dispute to an end and ensure that the travelling public get what they want – a second safety critical member of staff on every train.

I will write to you again as soon as there is anything further to report.

Best wishes,

Mick Cash General Secretary
