ROLE OF THE GUARD AND EXTENSION OF DOO – ARRIVA RAIL NORTH
Further to previous correspondence on the above matter, I can report that Arriva Rail North has approached the RMT for talks aimed at ending the current deadlock in the dispute. Although, the terms of reference and the dates and location for these talks has yet to be agreed, this should be seen as a step forward. No formal negotiations with the company in respect of DOO have taken place since February. I sincerely hope that in their willingness to hold talks with your union, management now want to reach an agreement which will meet with our aspirations.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you all on standing firm against ARN. Without your fantastic display of solidarity over the past 14 months, the union would not have been able to force management back around the negotiating table. It is a testament to the effectiveness of a strong and organised workforce which is prepared to defend jobs and safety on the railway.
I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will write again when there are new developments.
