ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – ARRIVA RAIL NORTH RMT CALLS FURTHER STRIKE ACTION

Our Ref: BR2/0146

24th October 2017

TO ALL ARN CONDUCTORS AND DRIVERS

Dear Colleague

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – ARRIVA RAIL NORTH
RMT CALLS FURTHER STRIKE ACTION

On behalf of myself and the union’s Executive Committee, I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues on the rock solid action you have taken during the long running dispute on DOO. Regrettably, despite your union’s best intentions no progress has been made in our fight against the extension of DOO on Arriva Rail North services.

Your union’s National Executive Committee has again considered the matter and believes that in order to defend the safety critical role of the Guard there is no other option but to continue with the industrial action. Therefore, you and your colleagues are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between:-

00.01 and 23.59 hours hours on Wednesday 8th November 2017

The NEC believes that our campaign of industrial action will need to be ramped up in the new year should there continue to be no movement from the company to offer a satisfactory outcome to the dispute. Members should therefore be prepared for the possibility of a sustained period of industrial action in early January 2018

The unity and support you have shown throughout this very difficult dispute is stupendous and I urge you all to continue with this fantastic solidarity. Management continue to plan to remove 50% of guards from its services and we must do everything we can to defend the vital safety critical role of the guard.

NO TO DOO!
SUPPORT THE ACTION
SUPPORT YOUR COLLEAGUES

Best wishes.
