Role of the Guard & Extension of Doo – Arriva Rail North

Our Ref: BR2/0146

2nd March 2016

Dear Colleague,

Role of the Guard & Extension of DOO – Arriva Rail North

I write further to my previous correspondence on the above matter and whereby I informed you that the NEC has instructed you and your colleagues to take strike action in defending the safety critical role of the guard. As you may have already seen, Arriva Rail North, are producing spoof notices and posters indicating the strike has been called off. This is totally not the case and I ask that you completely disregard these underhanded and dirty tricks. The union will always inform you when strike action has been called and cancelled, not management.

The company need to realise that instead of wasting time producing pointless propaganda, they should be getting round the table and trying to resolve this dispute. Therefore, I ask that you ignore this management drivel. As a way of reminder you and your colleagues are still instructed to take the following strike action by not booking on for any shifts that commence between the hours of:-

•    0001 hours and 2359 hours on Monday 13th March 2017

The company need to be sent a clear message that these are important and serious issues. We must show that we will not back down until we have guaranteed the safe running of the railway, the safety of passengers and the safety critical role of the guard. I urge you all to fully support this strike and send Arriva Rail North a strong message that we will not be fooled by their ridiculous tactics.

Yours sincerely
