Dear Colleague

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – ARRIVA RAIL NORTH
RMT CALLS FURTHER STRIKE ACTION

On behalf of myself and your union’s National Executive Committee, I would like to thank you and your colleagues for the continued support and steadfast resolve you have shown throughout the long running dispute on DOO. The action taken to date has been rock solid.

Let us be clear if the company have their way on DCO they will run almost 500,000 trains a year without a Guard. Whilst you keep being advised that there will be guaranteed employment Grayling will give this guarantee of employment if we accept DCO - i.e. getting rid of the Guard on 50% of services. Make no mistake this will be the end of the Guard on Arriva Rail North.

Your union’s National Executive Committee has again considered the matter and believes that in order to defend the safety critical role of the Guard there is no other option but to continue with the industrial action.

Therefore, all ARN Conductor, Conductor Instructor and Train Driver members are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between:-

• 00.01 Hours and 23.59 Hours on Tuesday 19th June 2018
• 00.01 Hours and 23.59 Hours on Thursday 21st June 2018
• 00.01 Hours and 23.59 Hours on Saturday 23rd June 2018

The long running dispute on DOO is one that is affecting our members up and down the Country. Our members on other Train Operating Companies are also fighting to defend the safety critical role of the Guard and to ensure the companies they work for do not put profit before passenger safety.

The unity and strength you have shown to date has been incredible and I urge you all to continue with this fantastic show of solidarity. We must do everything we can to defend the safety critical role of the Guard and passenger safety.

NO TO DOO

Best wishes.
