ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – GREATER ANGLIA

Our Ref: BR2/0146

25th August 2017

Dear Colleague,

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – GREATER ANGLIA

I am writing in relation to the above matter, as you may have heard on 24th August 2017 Richard Dean gave an interview with Radio Essex regarding our dispute and in relation to the Safety Critical Role of the Guard.

In the broadcast, Mr. Dean gave indications that Greater Anglia was close to agreeing with the union on the retention of a second safety critical member of staff on their trains. This has come as a surprise, as in recent meetings with the company they had totally failed to give any such commitments. Therefore, I have written to the Managing Director of Greater Anglia asking if Mr. Dean’s claims are correct and that the company are now willing to give us a straight answer and guarantee a second safety critical person on their trains.

Until we receive such guarantees our ballot for industrial action continues and it is still imperative that you and your colleagues vote YES to both questions in the ballot for industrial action. I would also remind members that it is crucial that you return your voting paper by Tuesday 12th September 2017.

If you have not already received a ballot then please contact the RMT Freephone Helpline urgently on 0800 376 3706 or the RMT Switch board on 020 7387 4771 and ask for the industrial relations department, where a replacement ballot paper will be sent to you by first class post. Additionally, if you are aware of a colleague who has not received their ballot paper, ask them to call on of the above numbers to update their details to receive a replacement ballot paper.
