ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – MERSEYRAIL

Our Ref: BR2/0146

15th February 2017

TO ALL DRIVERS AND CONDUCTORS AT MERSEYRAIL

Dear Colleague

BALLOT PAPERS GO OUT FRIDAY

LOCAL MEETING ARRANGED TO DISCUSS DISPUTE ON SUNDAY 19TH FEBRUARY

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – MERSEYRAIL

Further to my letter dated 10th February 2017, I have advised you that RMT is balloting all Merseyrail Drivers and Conductors for strike action and industrial action short of a strike over the role of the guard and Driver Only Operation. Merseyrail have totally failed to give us the assurances we require over a guaranteed a second person on all passenger services with the retention of their full operational and safety critical role.

We therefore have no alternative but to ballot you all for industrial action. It is vitally important that we get a strong Yes vote in favour of action in this ballot. Merseyrail must be left in no doubt that we reject any attempts to remove or undermine the absolutely vital safety critical role of the guard.

In addition you are invited to attend a meeting to discuss the dispute which will be held on Sunday 19th February 2017 from 1100 to 1300 hours at the Birkdale Labour Club, 53 Liverpool Road, PR8 4BD. (2 Minutes walk from Birkdale Station). All members are invited to attend.

Ballot papers are being sent to your home addresses from this Friday with a closing date of First Post, Tuesday 28th February 2017. I urge you all to vote strongly in favour of strike action and industrial action short of a strike.

If you have not received a ballot paper by Wednesday 22nd February 2017 please contact the RMT Helpline urgently on 0800 376 3706 and a replacement will be sent to you first class.
MAKE SURE YOU VOTE
VOTE ‘YES’ FOR STRIKE ACTION
VOTE ‘YES’ FOR ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE

Yours sincerely
