STRIKE ACTION REMAINS ON

19th January 2017

Dear Colleague,

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTHERN (GTR)

I would like to thank you and your colleagues for your continued determination and dedication in resisting GTR’s vindictive approach and attitude in this dispute. You and your colleagues have stood shoulder to shoulder and remained resilient in opposing GTR’s extension of DOO and imposing the On-Board Supervisor role. The unity and strength of you and your colleagues has been inspiring and admirable and is a true testament to the trade union movement.

I am writing to the Transport Minister Chris Grayling advising him that we are more than happy to meet him in an effort to resolve this dispute during the week commencing 30th January and we are awaiting his reply.

Your National Executive Committee is arranging a meeting to take place on the afternoon of Sunday 29th January 2017 in Three Bridges (actual time and venue to be confirmed). I hope that as many of you as possible are able to attend this meeting in order to share your views with your negotiators and union officers. It is amazing the strength of feeling you have shown in supporting this dispute and you should be extremely proud.

We are disappointed at the actions taken by the TUC in bypassing the normal negotiations as in doing so they have excluded this union from the discussions on the drivers dispute and I shall be making our views very clear. I would add that our drivers at this moment in time will still be taking strike action next week and picket lines will be in place.

Obviously your National Executive Committee is keeping a very close eye on the fast moving issues, but I urge you to support the action called for Monday 23rd January 2017.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
