ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTHERN (GTR)

Dear Colleague,

UNION AGREES TALKS WITH SOUTHERN

4TH APRIL STRIKE ACTION CANCELLED

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTHERN (GTR)

Further to my correspondence dated 17th March 2017, I am writing to update you on the latest decision of the National Executive Committee. Firstly, I would again congratulate you on the magnificent support that you have shown throughout this dispute.

In my last correspondence I advised you that I had written to Southern expressing my concern that they had again reached agreement with another Union without including the RMT. However, we sought an urgent meeting with Southern in an effort to achieve a mutually agreeable and safe resolution to the dispute and I advised them that if these talks were forthcoming then the National Executive Committee will urgently reconsider the action called.

Southern has now proposed we meet on the 4th April and the National Executive Committee has agreed to attend the talks. As I pointed out previously our suspicion that Southern would not meet until after the Drivers referendum result is announced has been proved correct. However, as stated we are still willing to meet on the 4th and as a result the National Executive Committee has cancelled the strike action called for 4th April 2017 and members have been instructed to work normally on this date.

The National Executive Committee has, however, called further strike action and members are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between:-

•    00.01 and 23.59 on Saturday 8th April 2017.

The National Executive Committee has stated that they remain prepared to suspend this action if talks with Southern are meaningful and we make progress.

I will write to you again as soon as there are any developments and following the meeting on 4th April.

SUPPORT THE STRIKE
SUPPORT YOUR COLLEAGUES
SUPPORT YOU UNION

Best wishes.
