ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

Our Ref: BR2/0146

14th November 2019

Dear Colleague,

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

Further to my previous letter dated 5th November 2019 and where I advised that the NEC had called a series of strike days because South Western Railway management reneged on agreements that had been made in principle and in good faith. The company are now trying to deny these agreements were ever made and are showing their contempt for you and your colleagues.

The strike action called is well and truly down to SWR’s mismanagement and disingenuous position on the agreement and discussions. This dispute could easily be resolved if management started taking discussions seriously. SWR are once again showing their true colours, leading the union to believe we almost had a deal before pulling the rug from under our feet. We still have not received anything from the company and they have made no attempt whatsoever to reach an agreement with your union. These strikes could have easily been avoided if the company had stuck to their agreements, corresponded with your union and offered further discussions.

I have attached the minutes of the meeting for you and your colleagues to read over. As you will see for yourselves management are clearly not interested in resolving this dispute and are more interested in spreading misinformation and dishonest representations of the discussions.

The minutes can be found here:

I have, as always, informed the company that we are always available to meet to resolve this dispute. I would like to personally thank you all for your clear solidarity and standing strong during this dispute. We must continue to stand shoulder to shoulder during the upcoming industrial action.

I will continue to keep members fully advised of further developments.

NO TO DOO!
UNITY IS STRENGTH!
SUPPORT THE STRIKE ACTION!

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
