ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY
A high level meeting with South Western Railway and the RMT was held on Thursday 25th July to discuss the ongoing dispute.
The meeting was attended by Andy Mellors Managing Director of South Western Railway supported by Sharon Johnson HR Director and Alan Penlington Customer Experience Director, the union was represented by Mick Cash RMT General Secretary supported by Mick Tosh RMT lead officer for South Western Railway, Geoff Kite RMT NEC member, Rob Ireland, Fraser Scott and Tony Snellgrove RMT South Western Railway Guards Company Council.
At the meeting the full range of issues relating to the dispute was discussed following which it was agreed that a clear timetable should be set down to allow a formal proposal to made by the company to the union. It was agreed intensive discussions on the potential future operational modes should take place involving union representatives. These discussions to be completed to enable the company to table a formal proposal to the union on its preferred method of operation at the next high level meeting to be held on the 29 August.
In addition the union has requested a meeting of all its local guard representatives to discuss the company proposals after 29 August.
