Dear Colleague

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – ARRIVA RAIL NORTH

Further to my previous correspondence, I now write to inform you that I have received resolutions from our Carlisle City and Sheffield & District Branches with regards to the industrial action our members are taking part in over the DOO dispute.

The Executive Committee has recently considered the matter and having sought the views of your workplace Representatives and taken into consideration information provided at meetings with your Union Representatives, believes that the current consensus of our membership is to continue to take industrial action on Saturday’s.

The Executive Committee also notes that Arriva Rail North are running less than 10% of their booked services on Saturdays (fewer than 250 out of over 2500) which is having a significant impact on managements morale and company revenue.

In addition to the above, the Executive Committee has invited the Guards Company Council Representatives to Head Office to meet with the Senior Assistant General Secretary, Lead Officer and members of the Executive Committee to discuss the best strategy going forward to resolve the DOO dispute. The meeting will be held on Tuesday 30th October 2018 and I will, of course, provide a further update on the situation following conclusion of the meeting.

Once again, I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues for standing united throughout this long and difficult dispute and for supporting the strike action taken to date.

Best wishes.

Mick Cash
General Secretary
