ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

Our Ref: BR2/0146

29th March 2018

TO ALL GUARDS AND COMMERCIAL GUARDS

Dear Colleague,

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

I am writing further to my previous letter in which I informed you of the phenomenal ballot result for industrial action in the re-ballot. I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues for your continued determination. Despite the roadblocks put in place by the anti-trade union laws you and your colleagues sent a clear message to the company that we are serious about passenger safety and that we will do everything to defend the Safety Critical Role of the Guard.

You have no doubt received the latest propaganda from the company trying to intimidate you and your colleagues from taking lawful industrial action that you have democratically voted in favour of. It is shameful that the company have still failed to get around the table to try and find a meaningful resolution to this dispute. Instead they are using this time to try every tactic available to threaten and coerce you and your colleagues into going against the dispute. It is disgraceful the company have still failed to contact us regarding the disproportionate deductions, something which we are pursuing and have written to them again demanding an answer.

Therefore, in light of the company’s blatant refusal to try and find a meaningful resolution to this dispute the action remains on. The National Executive Committee is instructing you and your colleagues to take the following industrial action:-

1. All Guards, Commercial Guards and Train Driver Members

• Not to undertake any rest day working from 00:01 hours on Friday 30th March 2018 until 23:59 hours on Monday 2nd April 2018.

2. Guard and Commercial Guard Members

• From 00:01 hours on Friday 30th March 2018 until 23:59 hours on Monday 2nd April 2018, all Guards and Commercial Guard members are instructed to take industrial action by refusing to work in accordance with sections 7.2.2, 7.2.4 and 7.4.2 of the Guards Restructuring Agreement.

We must stand shoulder to shoulder during this industrial action and send the company a clear message that we will not allow them to bulldoze through their plans for DOO.

SUPPORT THE ACTION
SUPPORT YOUR UNION
UNITY IS STRENGTH
Yours sincerely

General Secretary
