RMT CALLS FURTHER INDUSTRIAL ACTION
ROLE OF THE GUARD AND INTRODUCTION OF DOO – MERSEYRAIL
Further to my previous correspondence with regards to the above matter and where I informed you that the RMT had accepted Merseyrails offer of further talks, without pre conditions, in the hope of finding a satisfactory settlement to this dispute. Regrettably, I write to inform you that Merseyrail have not moved an inch from their position to remove all Guards and introduce DOO. Talks have completely broken down purely because of management’s absolute refusal to guarantee a second safety critical person on all new trains.
Your union’s National Executive Committee has again considered the matter and notes management’s deliberate failure to hold any meaningful talks to find an acceptable solution to this dispute. Therefore, your Executive Committee has taken the decision to call on all our Merseyrail Driver and Guard members to take further industrial action as follows:
All affected members are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between 00.01 hours and 23.59 hours on Tuesday 30th May 2017.
In addition, members are reminded that the instruction not to work any rest days remains in place.
Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our affected members for standing strong in this dispute. It is vital that we continue our fight to protect the role of the Guard and oppose the introduction of DOO. The only guarantee of delivering a safe and secure railway is by having a second safety critical person on all new trains. I urge you to support the action and continue the indefinite rest day ban.
UNITY IS STRENGTH – SUPPORT THE ACTION
