TO ALL MERSEYRAIL GUARDS, GUARDS STANDARDS MANAGERS AND TRAIN DRIVERS

Dear colleague,

ROLE OF THE GUARD & INTRODUCTION OF DOO - MERSEYRAIL

You will have seen the two disgracefully misleading round-robins sent by Merseyrail Operations Director Zoe Hands during the last week or so. For your information I attach below the union’s letter to the company, sent today by Regional Organiser John Tilley.

“January 17, 2018

Dear Jane,

I have today had sight of Zoe Hands' latest utterly misleading 'update' to the Guards. I am of course also aware of the company repeating the statement that you have agreed to independent talks “without pre-conditions”, in response to the Metro Mayor.

Your position has been consistent, in that you will only talk about how we remove the guards and the measures involved in that process. This was set out in your proposed agenda items contained in your letter of September 22 last year, which were more or less repeated in Zoe Hands' first round-robin to Guards last week.

As a result of your new operations director repeating this statement, I am today asking you the following straightforward question to clarify your position:

Are you prepared to attend talks with RMT that Merseyrail accept could reach an outcome that guarantees a second safety critical person on all passenger services operated by the New fleet?

If your answer is Yes, then we can make the necessary arrangements for discussions through Acas.

I await your considered early response.

As you will see below, this letter is being copied to Acas and the Metro Mayor.

Yours sincerely,

John Tilley
Regional Organiser

CC Metro Mayor. Mel McRae (Acas) Mick Cash and CC reps.”

Yours sincerely
