ROLE OF THE GUARD & INTRODUCTION OF DOO – MERSEYRAIL

To All Merseyrail Guards, Guard Standard Managers and Train Drivers

Our Ref: BR2/0146

31st August 2017

Dear Colleague

ROLE OF THE GUARD & INTRODUCTION OF DOO – MERSEYRAIL
STRIKE ACTION STARTS FRIDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER

Further to my previous correspondence with regards to the above dispute. As you are fully aware, the RMT’s policy is that there should be a Guard on every train and that Guard should have safety responsibilities. Despite your union’s best intentions Merseyrail refuse to listen to the crucial issue at the heart of this dispute, the future of the safety critical role of the guard.

Therefore, all Guards, Guard Standard Managers and Train Drivers are instructed not to book on for any turns of duty that commence between:

•    00.01 hours and 23.59 hours on Friday 1st September 2017
•    00.01 hours on Sunday 3rd September 2017 until 23.59 hours on Monday 4th September 2017

The RMT has proposed a number of potential solutions which we believe would bring this ongoing dispute to a satisfactory conclusion but Merseyrail continuously fail to negotiate an amicable resolution. It is vital that we continue our fight to protect the role of the Guard and oppose the introduction of DOO. I urge you to continue to show your strength of feeling to the company by supporting the strike action this weekend.

SUPPORT YOUR UNION
SUPPORT THE STRIKE ACTION

Best wishes.
