ROLE OF THE GUARD, SENIOR CONDUCTOR CONTROLLED DISPATCH PROCEDURE – WEST MIDLAND TRAINS
As you are aware, members accepted a number of proposals relating to the Role of the Guard in the referendum that closed in January 2020 when members voted to accept the revised working.
I can now advise you that I have received an update report from the Lead Officer and the union’s National Executive Committee has considered the report and have noted that as part of the overall agreement to ensure the Guard remained in an active involvement in the Dispatch process, the ‘Release & Close control buttons’ would be integrated within the Guards Operating Panel and that the manufacturers CAF & Bombardier due to build times issues would be retrospectively fitted. However, there has been no definitive timescale agreed.
Therefore, the Executive Committee has instructed me to seek a meeting with the Managing Director of West Midland Trains and failing this could put us back into a dispute situation position.
I am now making the necessary arrangements for the meeting to be held and I will, of course, keep you fully advised on any further developments.
