RMT CALLS FURTHER 48 HOUR STRIKE ACTION
Dear Colleague
ROSTERING ISSUES, CATERING GRADES – AVANTI WEST COAST
A meeting of your representatives, Lead Officer, the Assistant General Secretary, and the Union’s National Executive Committee has recently been held to discuss the issues at the heart of the dispute.
It has become apparent that Avanti West Coast management have treated the Catering grade with utter contempt. Members have rightly refused to be treated this way by management and will not tolerate an inadequate work life balance, with hard-won agreements being attacked.
Your union’s National Executive Committee has considered the matter and have listened to your representatives. Therefore, the NEC has taken the decision to call on all our AWC Catering Grade members to take further industrial action. Therefore, you and your colleagues are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between:
- 0001 Hours on Friday 26th July 2024 and 2359 Hours on Saturday 27th July 2024.
I ask you all to show your support and stand shoulder to shoulder during the day of industrial action. We must demand that the company immediately take our concerns seriously and address the issues at the heart of this dispute, without delay.
In order to spread the message to the travelling public and to assist with picket line materials, I will be also be launching a ‘Justice for Avanti Caterers’ campaign and producing materials such as placards, lanyards and stickers. Leaflets will also be produced outlining the dispute and a QR code available for members of the public to scan and register their disgust with Avanti West Coast over their appalling treatment of their staff.
Furthermore, the RMT will be raising the issue through an Early Day motion with the RMT parliamentary group. The Labour Metro Mayors will also be contacted in order to gain as much support for RMT AWC catering members as possible.
I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter and I will, of course, update you on any further developments.
UNITY IS STRENGTH
SUPPORT THE INDUSTRIAL ACTION
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
