ROSTERING ISSUES, CATERING GRADES – AVANTI WEST COAST

TO ALL AVANTI WEST COAST CATERING GRADES

7th February 2024

Dear RMT Member,

ROSTERING ISSUES, CATERING GRADES – AVANTI WEST COAST

The Union has raised concerns with Avanti West Coast following a meeting with the Catering Company Council relating to issues with the STP Diagrams.

During discussions multiple examples of STP diagrams that are no different to the LTP diagrams that staff were originally booked to work were provided. There is now situation where staff diagrams are being wrongly cancelled, other staff members are allocated their work off spare and the staff in the original post are made spare but subjected to a two-hour movement on STP.

This situation is made even worse by the sheer volume of STP turns which have increased because of engineering work. The uncertainty of what shift members are working and finishing time is ruining the work/life balance for many members of staff. This situation cannot continue.

The RMT Union’s National Executive Committee has considered this matter and have acknowledged the ongoing issues members are facing. Therefore, acting under instruction from the Union’s NEC I have advised Avanti West Coast that we are now in dispute with them over the application of STP turns for Avanti Catering grades.

Your Lead Officer and the company are due to meet to discuss this issue. I have requested a further a report following these discussions, which I will place before the Union’s NEC to consider our next steps.

I trust this keeps you advised, and I will write to members following any further updates.

Yours sincerely
