Dear RMT Member,
ROSTERING ISSUES, CATERING GRADES – AVANTI WEST COAST
I write to advise you that the ballot has now closed, and the result is as follows:
Are you prepared to take strike action?
Number of individuals who were entitled to vote in the ballot: 784
Number of votes cast in the ballot: 259
Number of individuals answering “Yes” to the question: 232
Number of individuals answering “No” to the question: 26
Number of spoiled or otherwise invalid voting papers returned: 1
Are you prepared to take industrial action short of a strike?
Number of individuals who were entitled to vote in the ballot: 784
Number of votes cast in the ballot: 259
Number of individuals answering “Yes” to the question: 237
Number of individuals answering “No” to the question: 15
Number of spoiled or otherwise invalid voting papers returned: 7
The RMT Union’s National Executive Committee has considered this result and acknowledged that it failed to meet the anti-trade union turnout thresholds, despite an overwhelmingly majority of members voting yes to both questions.
Further discussions have taken place with the company over a Catering Rostering Principles Trial to address the issues at the heart of this dispute. The Union’s NEC has instructed me to advise the company that we are in agreement with the trial. The company will be issuing a joint communication to outline the agreement and explain how it will operate.
I trust this keeps you advised, and I will update you on any further developments should they arise.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
