SALE OF PULLMAN RAIL LIMITED TO TRANSPORT FOR WALES
I write further to my previous letter dated 11th August 2021, where I advised that it had been brought to the Union’s attention that over the weekend Transport for Wales (TfW) has agreed the purchase of Pullman Rail Limited from Colas Rail UK, and that a detailed report would be sought from the Lead Officer.
Your Lead Officer has since reported on developments in this matter. A meeting of your Representatives and Lead Officer has taken place with TFW/Pullman Rail at a senior level, and the facility for future regular meetings with management has been requested. The current business position from TFW is that nothing has changed and that the Welsh Government has stipulated that TFW must protect work and jobs at Pullman Rail while ensuring that Pullman Rail success as a separate entity within TFW Group.
The matter was placed before your Union’s National Executive Committee who noted the detailed report from your Lead Officer. Your NEC has instructed that the Welsh Government is written to, seeking the answer to several questions concerning the purchase of Pullman Rail, the intentions for its future, and to seek assurances over how Pullman Rail will continue to operate within the wider industry.
I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will of course keep you updated on all further developments.
