SKILLED MAINTAINER RE-GRADE 4 TO 7 – NEXUS (TYNE & WEAR METRO)

Circular No: IR/030/20

Our Ref: BR5/14/3

To all NEXUS (T&WM) Skilled Maintainer Electrical/Mechanical grade members

Our Ref: BR2/2/2
20th January 2020

Dear Colleague

SKILLED MAINTAINER RE-GRADE 4 TO 7 – NEXUS (TYNE & WEAR METRO)
RMT TO RE-BALLOT MEMBERS FOR A THIRD TIME

Further to my letter dated the 10th January 2020 with regards to the above dispute and following the industrial action taken by you and your colleagues on the 20th and 21st December 2019, I can now update you as follows:

The union’s National Executive Committee has again considered the matter and notes that under the 2016 Trade Union Act a re-ballot is required every six months to keep the mandate ‘live’ and enable our members to continue to take industrial action. The current mandate will expire on the 22nd February 2020. Therefore, to allow industrial action to continue uninterrupted, the Executive Committee has instructed me to re-ballot all our NEXUS Skilled Maintainer Electrical/Mechanical grade members.

The re-ballot for strike action and industrial action short of a strike will open on Thursday 23rd January 2020 and will close on Thursday 6th February 2020. Please vote as soon as you receive your ballot paper and return it to the Scrutineer in the freepost envelope provided. Do not waste your vote.

The issues of this dispute remain the same. Our Skilled Maintainer Mechanical/Electrical Grade 4 on the NEXUS Tyne & Wear Metro are pursuing a fair pay parity by re-grading our members to meet the Technician Grade 7 rate or agree a reasonable timescale for an assessment to take place.

If you have not received your ballot paper by Thursday 30th January 2020, please call the RMT Helpline on 0800 376 3706 or the RMT Head Office on 0207 387 4771 and ask for the Industrial Relations Department. Alternatively, members can email the Helpline at info@rmt.org.uk and request a replacement ballot paper.

Important Please Note: The Scrutineer for RMT Ballots and Elections is now ‘Civica Election Services’ and not the ‘Electoral Reform Society’. Letters from Civica are not Junk Mail and should be opened.

Best wishes.
