SKILLED MAINTAINER REGRADE 4 TO 7 – NEXUS (TYNE & WEAR METRO)

Our Ref: BR2/2/2
10th January 2019

Dear Colleague

SKILLED MAINTAINER REGRADE 4 TO 7 – NEXUS (TYNE & WEAR METRO)

It has been brought to my attention by your Union Representatives that since 2016 our members employed as Skilled Maintainer, Electrical/Mechanical Grade 4 on the Nexus Tyne & Wear Metro have been trying to achieve pay/status parity with Technician Grade 7. Despite your Union Representatives suggesting the formation of a Joint Committee to agree a suitable evaluation mechanism as a way forward, the company has indicated it would take approximately two years to complete.

The union’s National Executive Committee has recently considered the matter and notes the frustrations of your Union Representatives over the company’s stalling tactics. The RMT feels this is a totally unacceptable timescale and the pay parity should be agreed.

Therefore, the Executive Committee has taken the decision to inform the company that we are now in dispute over this matter and to ballot all our Skilled Maintainer, Electrical/Mechanical Grade 4 members on the Nexus Tyne & Wear Metro for industrial action. The ballot for industrial action will open on Thursday 17th January 2019. Ballot papers will be sent to your home address shortly after this date and I urge you to vote YES FOR STRIKE ACTION and YES FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE when you receive your voting paper.

It is imperative that we get a massive return in the ballot for industrial action so we are not prevented from acting on our members’ wishes by the new ballot thresholds. Do not waste your vote. If you have not received your ballot paper by Wednesday 23rd January 2019 please contact the RMT Helpline on 0800 376 3706 and request a replacement voting paper. Alternatively, you may wish to contact RMT Head Office Reception on 0207 387 4771 and ask for the Industrial Relations Department.

This situation is totally unacceptable and now is the time to stand united and show your support by voting YES in the ballot for industrial action.

SUPPORT YOUR UNION
VOTE YES IN THE BALLOT FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION

Best wishes.
