STATION GRADES HARMONISATION – GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY

Our Ref: BR2/0146

14th June 2018

Dear Colleague,

STATION GRADES HARMONISATION – GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY

I am writing in relation to the above matter and further to a report received from our Lead Officer. As you may be aware in 2016 negotiations with Great Western Railway over the issue of Station Grade Harmonisation effectively stalled. This was mostly due to the GWR’s unwillingness to address the concerns of our negotiating team and that the company’s offer was unacceptable.

This issue was recently raised with GWR who has now held discussions with the Stations Divisional Councils and the SDC chair and secretary to discuss the company’s desire to progress harmonisation talks. This has also included a discussion around key principles of harmonisation for the SDC representatives and company. The union and GWR are currently preparing for formal discussions on harmonisation which will take place in July 2018.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and has acknowledged the company’s response as well as the upcoming talks that are due to commence in July. Therefore, I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will inform you of any further developments on this issue when they arise.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
