STATION STAFFING & SAFETY ARRANGEMENTS, POST-IMPLEMENTATION OF FIT FOR THE FUTURE – LONDON UNDERGROUND

Our Ref: LUL/14/5

13th January 2017

Dear Colleague,

STATION STAFFING & SAFETY ARRANGEMENTS, POST-IMPLEMENTATION OF FIT FOR THE FUTURE – LONDON UNDERGROUND

Firstly, all members are congratulated for the commendable solidarity shown by you all during the strike action early this week. There was tremendous support across the whole network and London Underground can be in no doubt about the seriousness of the current station staffing crisis and your determination to see the cuts reversed.

Having consulted your RMT Station Reps, the National Executive Committee has now taken the decision to give the Company until Monday 6th February to come up with a genuine proposal which meets our reasonable demands over station staffing and safety. If nothing is forthcoming, the NEC has resolved to call further, escalated strike action as the current situation is a disaster waiting to happen and cannot be allowed to continue.

In the meantime, the overtime and rest day working ban, non-familiarisation and non-rostering of overtime remains on as a clear demonstration that it is not possible to run a decent service without sufficient, experienced, safety-critical staff.

There is ample time for LUL to present an acceptable solution to us at ACAS and I urge them to do so rather than using their efforts and money on covering gaps with hastily briefed managers.  A further meeting is also due to take place with your Lead Officer, Reps and NEC members and I will of course keep you advised of all developments.

STAND FIRM TOGETHER – UNITY IS STRENGTH

Yours sincerely
