STATION TOUCH POINT CLEANING DUTIES, TRAIN CLEANING STAFF- SERVEST (GWR CONTRACT)
I have received a report from our Lead Officer following a meeting with Servest over staff carrying out ‘COVID-19 response touch point cleaning’ on gatelines or other station facilities. The union has not been approached or consulted regarding any changes to duties or work load. During discussions it was acknowledged that within your current role your duties are extensive which has meant temporary cleaners being employed at a number of locations to carry out additional COVID-19 cleaning.
Therefore, the union’s position on ‘COVID-19 response touch point cleaning’ is that it has not been agreed. If you and your colleagues wish to volunteer for the work outside of your job description then that is an individual decision. However, the union does not see this as part of your expected duties on the GWR contract. There is no doubt that Servest have received additional funds from GWR to carry out the COVID-19 cleaning. The current pandemic should not be a profit making exercise for Servest and that should you and your colleagues take on more responsibilities then improvements to pay and conditions should follow to reflect the increase in work load.
The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and has acknowledged the current position. The NEC would like to remind members that should you experience any issues locally then you should contact your RMT representative, your Branch, the Lead officer or your Regional Office.
