LAST CHANCE TO VOTE - PLEASE DON'T WASTE IT
VOTE YES TO BOTH QUESTIONS IN THE BALLOT FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION
The closing date for the ballot is Thursday (29th April 2021) - so if you haven't done so already - now is the time to vote. Due to the balloting laws, I cannot stress enough how important it is that you fill in your ballot paper and return it as quickly as possible.
Your union has been in talks with Stena Line in the past week in effort to try and resolve this matter. At the conclusion of meetings last week, management tabled some changes to the revised Company Sick Pay arrangements. However, these amendments did not guarantee Company Sick Pay from day one, the changes were only effective from 2022, employees would still not receive 100% Company Sick Pay during their qualifying periods, the administration of SSP payments only made reference to Seafarers on Cypriot flagged vessels, if Seafarers are repatriated from a vessel following an injury Company Sick Pay would not be 100% and the coronavirus clauses stated that ‘[payments] may still be accessed’ rather than stating that these payments should be made to all employees without exception. For these reasons, the union’s National Executive Committee rejected the company’s proposals as they still do not meet with the aspirations of our members.
The RMT will continue to enter dialogue with Stena Line this week in an attempt to find a way forward with this issue. However, these developments should not dissuade you from voting in the ballot if you have not done so already. The matter remains unresolved to the satisfaction of this union.
If you have not received a ballot, then please contact the RMT Freephone Helpline immediately on 0800 376 3706 or the RMT switchboard on 020 7387 4771 and ask for the industrial relations department, where a replacement ballot paper will be sent to you by first class post. Also, if you are aware of a colleague who has not received their ballot paper, ask them to call one of the above numbers to update their details and to receive a replacement ballot paper.
