SUNDAY WORKING, DRIVERS – GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY

Our Ref: BR2/8/4

22nd May 2019

Dear Colleague,

SUNDAY WORKING, DRIVERS – GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY

I am writing to inform you that the union will be entering into discussions with Great Western Railway on the 24th June 2019 over the issue of Sunday working for our Driver members. The meeting will focus on all aspects of Sunday Working and the potential options available ranging from additional enhancements to Sunday’s becoming part of the working week.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and noting that Sunday’s are often a contentious subject has asked for members to respond clearly with their views. The NEC has asked members to be specific on what they want discussed, proposed or rejected. The views of our members are vital in shaping the way the discussions take place and it is imperative that the views are not ambiguous and give a clear indication of what you want such as:- seek increased remuneration, reduced working week/hours or if we should reject all proposals all together.

Therefore, to ensure your voice is heard, the NEC has asked members to contact their relevant branch with their views. I have asked that branches with GWR Drivers hold special branch meetings to allow you and your colleagues to voice their opinions.

The NEC has asked for all responses to be received by no later than Thursday 20th June 2019.

I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will inform you of any further developments on this issue when they arise. I would be most grateful if you could please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of your members

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
