THREAT OF COMPULSORY REDUNDANCIES – BIDVEST NOONAN (KAD CONTRACT)
Your Union Reps met with Bidvest Noonan last week where they were provided with a set of proposals regarding an operational review of the contract which Bidvest Noonan took over on 1st February 2024. This review affects the whole of the day shift roster and would involve all members being required to agree to work a more flexible roster including weekend working. There will be fewer shifts available than there are currently, meaning members could move to night shifts or be made redundant. The Company has also advised that there is a requirement to reduce the headcount by making 5 compulsory redundancies.
This matter has been considered by the National Executive Committee, which is disappointed to find a new contractor behaving in such a callous way towards RMT members. Bidvest Noonan previously gave an assurance that any potential changes would be subject to a full consultation process and that there were no plans to make any redundancies. The position from the Company now is that the entire day shift roster is at risk of redundancy, amounting to a disgraceful fire and rehire process.
This proposal would also result in fewer staff doing the same amount of work so members remaining on the current would be subject to undue pressure and stress from the increased workload.
I have written to the Company to demand that the current threat of compulsory redundancies is withdrawn immediately and I will also be raising this matter with the Mayor of London.
I will keep you advised of all further developments.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
