Dear Colleague
TRAIN SWEEPING DUTIES, CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE ADVISORS – MTR ELIZABETH LINE
I have received the following resolution from our Paddington No 1 Branch with regards to the above matter:
“Our MTREL members are currently experiencing significant pressure from the company to perform train sweeping tasks, which are not within their job roles. Recently, this pressure has escalated due to the management team trialling an un-agreed process, creating a stressful work environment for our members.
This resolution seeks the General Secretary's directive for the lead officer to formally communicate with the company. The communication should insist that management cease pressuring staff to undertake these duties. Staff should only perform these tasks at their discretion until such responsibilities are officially agreed upon with the RMT.
If the company continues to impose these duties without proper negotiation and agreement with the RMT, we request that this be formally recognised as a dispute matter.
We also request that preparations are made for balloting MTR Customer Experience Advisor members at Paddington and Abbey Wood for action short of a strike to not carry out train sweeping duties at Paddington and Abbey Wood stations.”
The matter has been subject to recent consideration by the union’s National Executive Committee who thank our RMT Paddington No 1 Branch for their resolution. The Executive Committee has instructed me to obtain a report from the Lead Officer and to place the matter back before them for further consideration. The Executive Committee has also instructed me to prepare a ballot matrix of our affected members.
I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter and I will, of course, update you on any further developments.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
