Dear Colleague
USE OF AGENCY STAFF – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY
Further to my previous correspondence with regards to the above matter and where I informed you that the RMT had gone into dispute with SWR over the company employing agency workers on the network to check tickets on trains.
I can now advise you that an Avoidance of Disputes meeting has been held and a satisfactory resolution has been reached on this matter. The Lead Officer reports that the company has agreed to remove the agency staff used to check tickets on board trains and will look at ways of using employed staff ie Guards and RPA/I’s to increase checks in these areas.
The matter has been subject to recent consideration by the union’s National Executive Committee, who are pleasantly surprised to see that common sense has prevailed and that SWR has removed the agency staff and began engaging with our Representatives on utilising the existing staff, as per agreements made with the Union.
Therefore, I have informed South Western Railway that a dispute situation no longer exists between our two organisations over this matter.
I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
