Dear RMT Member,
USE OF AGENCY WORKERS, CLAPHAM YARD – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY
I recently reported that South Western Railway were using agency and outsourced workers to fill vacancies along the network. These workers are often on inferior contracts compared to colleagues who are directly employed by the company.
Since informing the company that we had entered into dispute over this issue, an urgent meeting was arranged with the company and the Lead Officer. I can now report that the agencies have been removed from Clapham Yard and agreements have been put in place with emergency rosters until new Depot Protection staff have been directly employed.
The Union’s National Executive Committee has considered this matter and has noted the report from our Lead Officer. Therefore, I have been instructed to inform the company that we are no longer in dispute and for the Fleet Company council to resume normal industrial relations and attend consultation meetings on this issue.
We will continue to remain vigilant to this issue and I will keep members advised of any developments.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
