Use of Annual Leave during Furlough Period – Mitie
Mitie have issued the following instruction to their employees:-
“All furloughed employees are required to take up to two weeks of holiday during their furlough period. You do not need to take any action, as this holiday will be allocated automatically. If you already had holiday booked whilst on Furlough, this will be cancelled automatically and changed to these dates.”
Today, your union has written to Mitie to object to the decision to enforce employees to take two weeks of annual leave whilst they are on furlough in the strongest possible terms. Your union’s National Executive Committee is of the opinion that the company’s actions are in breach of the Rail Industry Coronavirus Forum guidelines. The RMT is also seeking legal advice on this matter.
If you are forced to take annual leave while you are on furlough, then the RMT recommends that you should raise this matter via the grievance individual procedure. Your RMT Regional Office will be able to assist you with your grievance and contact details for your Regional Office can be found on the RMT website https://www.rmt.org.uk/regions/
I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will write again when there are new developments.
