VOLUNTARY TRAVEL AMBASSADOR SCHEME – NETWORK RAIL

Our Ref: BR6/2/2 Circular No: 23rd September 2019

TO ALL BRANCHES AND REGIONAL COUNCILS

Dear Colleagues,

VOLUNTARY TRAVEL AMBASSADOR SCHEME – NETWORK RAIL

Your union has been involved in a National Consultation with Network Rail concerning a proposed Voluntary Travel Ambassador Scheme. Despite the objections raised by us during the consultation Network Rail intend to proceed with a pilot towards the end of this year.

The NEC is concerned with the negative impact the scheme will have on members who work on these stations as well as the possible future encroachment on their roles. Consequently the NEC opposes the scheme.

A safe and efficient railway depends on adequately staffed stations. The only sustainable way to provide this is to employ more dedicated station staff.

The NEC recommends members do not volunteer to take part in the Voluntary Travel Ambassador Scheme.

I will be writing to Network Rail to reiterate our objections to the scheme.

Yours sincerely   Mick Cash General Secretary
