WEEKEND LEAVE RESTRICTIONS, WALES ROUTE – NETWORK RAIL MAINTENANCE

To: RMT Members in NR Maintenance Wales Route

Our Ref: BR4/7/1

9 January 2018

Dear colleague

WEEKEND LEAVE RESTRICTIONS, WALES ROUTE – NETWORK RAIL MAINTENANCE

Concerns have been raised by our Neath No 2 Branch that sections managers on the Wales route were imposing their own limits on how many days leave members can take on weekends per year despite there being no mention of such limits in our members’ terms and conditions.

The branch believes that the restrictions are being used to blackmail members into forfeiting rest periods on their roster. The branch called on the National Executive Committee to consider the following steps in order to address the matter:

•    Seek talks with Network Rail to request that their managers do not place these limits on our members’ leave
•    If Network Rail continue this practice, then members affected to be balloted for both strike action and action short of a strike

Your NEC considered this and instructed me to carry out the branch’s request and to ensure that the matter is raised at the appropriate level of the machinery. I am in the process of carrying out these instructions.

I will of course keep you advised of all further developments in this matter as we cannot allow the company to get away with such unfair practices.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
